What is Rosetta Stone?

Rosetta Stone is a language learning program which enables users to develop beginning reading, listening, speaking, and writing skills. Rosetta Stone utilizes language immersion, which means that all verbal and written information is provided in the target language. Rosetta Stone is considered to be one of the best language tutorial programs available.

What languages can I study with Rosetta Stone?

The languages offered in WCMC-Q's Rosetta Stone license agreement are: Arabic, Chinese (Mandarin), Danish, Dutch, English (UK), English (US), Farsi, French, German, Greek, Hebrew, Hindi, Indonesian, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Latin, Pashto, Polish, Portuguese, Russian, Spanish (Latin America), Spanish (Spain), Swahili, Swedish, Tagalog, Thai, Turkish, Vietnamese, and Welsh.

I'm hooked! How do I begin using Rosetta Stone?

Before you can begin using Rosetta Stone, you must first fill in a Registration Page. After your registration is received and processed, you will be given a login ID and password.

**Please note: This login ID and password are especially created for Rosetta Stone, and are not connected to your WCMC-Q login.

How does Rosetta Stone work?

Rosetta Stone has created a Quick Start Guide  Open link in PDF Doc which illustrates the basic features of the learning interface. It is also available for download from the Rosetta Stone website.

Help! I've forgotten my login ID and password!

If you forget your login information, please contact the reading room. Your information will be reset manually, and you may access your Course Page again.

I just tried logging in with my new username and password, and I was unable to access Rosetta Stone. What's going on?

If your login information has been recently reset, please try logging in again after 15 minutes.

I would like to try another Course, or I have completed my course and want to begin another. Can I switch languages?

You can switch language courses by contacting the Reading Room and requesting a course change.

I want to become a polyglot. How many languages can I study at once?

Due to license limitations, users are limited to the number of courses they are allowed to participate in simultaneously. Users may, of course, change courses as many times as they would like. For more information, please contact the Reading Room.

Can I study outside the WCMC-Q Building?

Absolutely! Rosetta Stone recognizes your username and password from any computer, be it in the residence hall, at home, at Starbucks, or in Buenos Aires.

I was trying to use Rosetta Stone on my computer at home, and when I logged in it told me I had to install Adobe Flash Player version 9.0.47 or higher or the Speech Recognition add-in. What's going on?

To utilize the interactive reading drills, Rosetta Stone requires Adobe Flash Player. To utilize the speaking portion of Rosetta Stone, the Speech Recognition patch will be required. Both can be installed by clicking on the link and following the instructions given by the individual programs.

**Rosetta Stone can still function without the Speech Recognition patch, but no speaking drills can be done.

When I talk to Rosetta Stone, it can't hear me. What's going on?

This may be an issue with your speech recognition software, or your microphone volume may be turned down.
