Learn how to stay current with literature in your field by utilizing email alert services that deliver current citations or the table of contents for selected journals.
Email Table of Contents (TOCs)
There are many publishers and vendors that will send journal table of contents or current citations (based on a profile you create) directly to your email. Examples include JAMA
, BMJ
, Nature
,
and NEJM
, to name a few. However, depending on your field of study, it may be more effective to use a vendor service that provides TOCs for many journals versus setting-up multiple individual profiles. For examples of email TOCs services, see information
on Ingenta
and ScienceDirect
in
the table below.
OVID AutoAlerts
The Distributed eLibrary subscribes to a large number of biomedical databases via the OVID interface (e.g. EMBASE, MEDLINE, BIOSIS, EBM Reviews, etc.). Therefore, we encourage our users to use the OVID AutoAlerts feature for updates on saved searches or to receive current selected TOCs from the Journals@OVID database. Like many current awareness services, this requires that you set-up a personal account first and then establish a profile for email alerts. Please Ask-a-Librarian for help getting started with OVID AutoAlerts.
Mediated Searches
Faculty liaison librarians are available to perform literature searches for any WCMC-Q faculty member and reference librarians can also provide this added value service to WCMC-Q administrators and staff.* The environment at WCMC-Q permits us to offer a level of research assistance that is more in-depth than what is available at most universities. No information request is too trivial, so please do not hesitate to ask.
Comparison of Current Awareness Services
* All other users (e.g. WCMC-Q students, community members, guests, etc.) should consult a reference librarian for assistance with developing an effective search strategy.
